PA Centers of Excellence

Diagnosis and treatment of primary aldosteronism requires procedures that can only be provided in medical centers. Because of the many comorbidities associated with the disease, patients also need coordinated care with fast and frequent access to various specialists and ancillary services.

Few medical centers have the capability to provide the needed care adequately and properly. Moreover, since standardization is lacking for the disease as a whole, protocols vary across clinics and hospitals. As a result, unless they travel far away from home, patients too often receive inadequate care (i.e., misdiagnosis, failed procedures).

To help patients address their medical needs, the Foundation maintains a list of centers with dedicated staff experienced in treating hyperaldosteronism. All centers routinely see higher volumes of patients, including more complex cases, and are involved in clinical research.

As with its physicians’ directory, the Foundation is not responsible for the quality of care provided by the listed centers. Upon notification of substandard practice and/or medical errors, the Foundation promptly initiates reviews, and when warranted, removes the concerned institution from its directory. Choosing a medical center is patients’ sole responsibility. The Foundation strongly encourages all patients to thoroughly review any information they receive, regardless of its source, and to share their lived experiences along the diagnosis and treatment journey.
